My Name’s Andy, and You Can Take Control Just Like Me
For a long time, Andy didn’t care about how serious his diabetes was, he ate what he wanted and guessed at the amounts of insulin to take.
It wasn’t until a particularly serious moment in his 30s, that he began to realise he needed to take better care of himself or he risked losing his life.
Andy has learned how to count his intake of carbohydrates and adjust his insulin to give him more control over his everyday life. He has created a routine which works for him and he sticks to it – making him feel happier, healthier and more secure about his future. Andy also now helps to empower others by offering support and advice both online and via social media.
Be the difference
More than 3.5 million people have been diagnosed with diabetes in the UK, while millions more are classed as being at high risk of diagnosis. Type-2 diabetes is preventable, however if left untreated, can lead to life-threatening complications such as heart disease, nerve damage, kidney failure and blindness.
Making healthy lifestyle changes not only helps to reduce the risk of diagnosis but to manage the condition and reduce the risk of complications.
With the right knowledge and motivation, we can all help make a difference in West Cheshire.
